Western's Speaker Series in Sarnia features current teaching and research at Western as well as topics relevant to people living in Sarnia and area.  The May lecture is:

Monarch Butterflies
The world’s best known insect
Dr. Jeremy McNeil, Department of Biology, Scientific Director, Biotron
The University of Western Ontario

The monarch butterfly is one of the world's best known insects, especially renowned for its spectacular seasonal migrations between the Mexican overwintering sites and its summer range in Canada in the United States. The presentation will describe the seasonal biology and discuss the various problems that may threaten the survival of this species. In addition, Dr. McNeil will talk about an ongoing research project addressing the question "How do they know exactly where to go in Mexico each fall?", which is still one of the major unknowns of monarch migration.

The cost to attend the lecture is $5.  Advance registration is required by calling 519-332-0656.

The doors open a half hour prior to start time and complimentary refreshments are available. There is free parking available at the centre.
