Tuesday, May 12, 2015
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

British Library at St. Pancreas, 96 Euston Road, London, UK, NW1 2DB

UK Reception U15 Event

Join Professor Joel Faflak, Director of the School for Advanced Studies in the Arts & Humanities at Western, for an alumni group tour of the magnificent British Library. The tour guide will meet our group at the Information Desk in the Entrance Hall. Please note that the tour must start by 6:15 p.m. sharp.

The tour covers the history of the British Library and its collections, and explains how the millions of items are stored and how they are requested, then delivered to researchers in the reading rooms. You will find out about the 'jewel in the crown' of the library's collections: the King's Library, which once belonged to King George III. The tour will take you behind the scenes into a book handling room and also, where possible, to the viewing platform, where you can see researchers inside the Humanities Reading Room. Finally the group will be taken to the Treasures Gallery, where some of the most precious and iconic items are on display.

Alumni will proceed to a nearby pub for cocktails following the tour. More details to follow.

There is no fee to attend, but please confirm your attendance by Tuesday, May 5, 2015.
