A Moveable Feast 2013

Western has the longest-running Writer in Residence program of any university in Canada, and we count among our alumni many of the top-tier of writers in Canada. After 40 years, it’s about time we started boasting about it.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites you to celebrate 40 years of Western’s Writer in Residence Program with A Moveable Feast, a gala evening celebrating the best of Prohibition – banned books, that is.

Join our distinguished Writer in Residence alumni, including Joan Barfoot, Bonnie Burnard, Ivan Coyote, Emma Donoghue, Molly Peacock, and NourbeSe Philip, for an evening of jazz-age glamour heightened by readings from books that caused a stir in the 1920s.

Join your hosts for the evening -- Dr. Bryce Traister, Chair of the Department of English and Writing Studies, and Dr. Kathleen Fraser, Director of the Writing Program -- together with faculty, friends, and other writers for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear an amazing group of writers. Mingle with literati over custom cocktails and a refined menu – and be prepared for surprises that relate to the theme.

Dress: Downton Abbey meets Boardwalk Empire meets Art Deco. Swing embellishments and flapper dresses, knickerbockers and bespoke suits, Coco Chanel and Sarah Bernhardt. (Business attire also welcome)

Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres served at 6:00 p.m. and dinner service at 7:00 p.m.

Registration is $100 per person and includes a three course meal, wine and a complimentary cocktail.

Net proceeds to support the culture of creative writing at Western.

Please register online by Monday, October 28, 2013.
