Simile, Metaphor, and the Making and Perception of Canada

Canada has been subject to countless comparisons of varying degrees of seriousness and facetiousness, from “the linchpin of the English-speaking world” (Winston Churchill) to “a loft apartment over a really great party” (Robin Williams). Join English professor and 2015 Killam Prize winner David Bentley for a discussion of the ways in which such comparisons have reflected and even helped to shape Canada and the Canadian identity.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Please register online by Monday, December 5, 2016.
