The Killer App
How the Cold War created video games and vice-versa. The history of the Cold War and the history of the computer were deeply, inextricably intertwined. This talk traces the origins of modern video games in the missile defense systems of the 1950s and 60s, and explores how dreams of push-button war have shaped politics and culture from the Cold War to the present day.
