The ‘yin’ and ‘yang’ of wind: Designing resilient and sustainable communities

In the context of climate and economic changes, wind plays dual roles. With the recent surge in tornado devastation in North America (‘yin’), assessing and reducing risk is more important than ever before. While encompassing 50 per cent of the world’s population, cities consume more than 65 per cent of its energy (‘yang’), and wind can play a vital role in reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.

Horia Hangan, Western Engineering professor and Director of the WindEEE (Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment) Research Institute, will discuss how research is aiming to tame the ‘yin’ and enhance the ‘yang’ of wind.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Please register online by Friday, February 8, 2013.
