Andrew Hrymak, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, invites alumni and friends to celebrate the history of the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory (BLWTL) and the new book, Wind Wizard: Alan G. Davenport and the Art of Wind Engineering by Siobhan Roberts, at a cocktail reception.

No matter what corner of the world you are in, the name Dr. Davenport has become synonymous with wind engineering. This new book explores how this “Wind Wizard” took to the world stage and shaped the future of civil engineering.  Based on a series of interviews, research and visits to the lab, the book describes the man behind research and takes a behind-the-scenes look at select towers and bridges that epitomize his career. It also focuses on his legacy and dedication to the prevention of wind-induced structural disasters.

Guests are also invited for a tour of the WindEEE (Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment) Research Institute - home of the world's first hexagonal wind dome - at the Advanced Manufacturing Park at 4:30 p.m. The Advanced Manufacturing Park is located at the corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Bradley Ave. on Boyd Court. A shuttle bus will be available for interested participants at the BLWTL at 4:00 p.m. The bus will return to the BLWTL for the cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m.

Please register for the reception and WindEEE Research Institute tour online by Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
