Western Alumni invites you and your guests to attend an evening of Careers & Conversation.

This event is not to be missed! It will be a casual gathering of alumni that offers meaningful connections with featured alumni as they share their career experience, industry insights and professional perspectives.

At this event, you will have the opportunity to talk with featured alumni representing Law, Government, Technology, Business and more. If you are transitioning careers, a developing professional, young alumni or are interested in networking with like-minded professionals, this Western Alumni Speed Networking event is for you.

Guests will enjoy appetizers and refreshments.

The registration fee is $10 per person.

I have been: senior official in Crown corporation, policy advisor to Prime Minister of Canada, university lecturer, private consultant, manager of international development projects, and association executive.

Laurie Elliot, BA'81 | Electricity Distribution
I have spent 33 years in the electricity industry in various roles from administrative services, human resources, finance, customer service, regulatory. I am currently the Manager of Regulatory Compliance & Reporting at Hydro Ottawa.

Anne Finlayson, MBA'88 | Small Business
I've held leadership roles including CEO, CFO and VP Operations for a small high-growth company, with functional strengths in finance, operations, new product investments, and intellectual property for small and large companies.

Robert Ford, HBA'89 | Law
Partner at law firm Kelly Santini LLP in Ottawa. Previously: (i) Partner, Gowlings; (ii) General Counsel, TimeStep Corporation; (iii) President & CEO of Ardesic Corp; and (iv) member of of the Board of Directors CIRA.

Bruce Hirst, MBA'84 | Government
Currently CFO and ADM Corporate Services of a large Federal Agency. Former Executive VP of London Health Sciences Hospital. Former ADM and CFO of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Previous positions in Office of the Comptroller General, Treasury Board.

Yi Jiang, BMOS'11 | Government
A policy-oriented professional currently working in the area of public-private-partnerships to support Canadian public infrastructure development; previous experience with Government of Ontario working in area of labour market development.

Johanna Jimenez-Pardo, MSc'10, BHSc'08 | Policy
I am currently a policy analyst with the Assembly of First Nations. My work entails working with government counterparts, other Aboriginal organizations, NGOs, and First Nations leadership to improve current policies and programs that affect First Nations.

James Junke, BA'73 | Diplomacy
Retired in October 2013 after a forty year career in diplomacy. Served in many regions and across the spectrum of foreign and trade policy and promotion. I am now volunteering on children's literacy and environmental issues. I was a member of the rowing team while at Western.

Talitha Nabbali, BSc'02 | Law
After receiving my undergraduate degree from Western, I attended law school. I now practice civil litigation with the Department of Justice Canada.

Natalie Raffoul, BESc'01 | Law
I am a founding partner of Brion Raffoul with expertise in the patenting of business methods and software, and the legal issues surrounding such subject matter.

Karina Roman, BA'96 | Journalism
I am a senior reporter in the parliamentary bureau at CBC in Ottawa. Before CBC, I worked at a number of national newspaper chains.

Margaret Sampson, MLIS'97 | Library Science
I am the librarian at CHEO, specializing in systematic reviews. With an active research portfolio focusing on improving search quality, I have over 80 published articles and was 2010 Hospital Librarian of the Year for the Canadian Health Library Association.

Emma Scott, BA'05 | International Trade/Insurance
15 years working experience for Canada's Export Credit Agency called: Export Development Canada. I have worked in different parts of Insurance from Claims, Underwriting and Bonding Cover.

Nathalie Schiebel, MA'91 | High Tech
I am a technical writer with 20 years experience creating high quality product documentation for the telecommunications industry.

Yuan-Kuen Wang, BA'04 | Government
I currently work for the Government of Canada, Department of Agriculture as a trade policy analyst. I have almost 8 years of experience. Prior to joining the public service I taught ESL in China for six months and obtained my Master of Arts.
