Bees are in decline, and the reasons complex. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has identified this as a major threat to global food security. One of the responses to the decline is a growing interest in urban beekeeping and urban pollinator gardening.  Evidence suggests that creating spaces for pollinators in cities can help reverse the decline of local populations of native bees.

This presentation will give participants practical information for creating vibrant pollinator habitats. It will outline the many benefits of gardening for and with bees, how to select plants that attract pollinators, how to create diverse polycultures, and how to create ideal conditions for native bee habitats. The obstacles and opportunities faced by urban beekeepers and pollinator gardeners will be discussed with a focus on creative problem-solving, including ideas for gently shifting the perspectives of people who are uncomfortable living in close proximity to bees.

Event will take place RAIN or SHINE.

Complimentary parking is available on site.
