Advanced Instrumental Pedagogy

 

This professional development opportunity will offer music educators the chance to explore a variety of methods for instrumental music education in both concert band and jazz ensemble contexts. Workshops will address rehearsal techniques, conducting skills, working with jazz rhythm sections, repertoire selection and preparation, instructional warm ups, and improvisation.

Taught by:

Dr. Colleen Richardson, Associate Professor and Director of Bands at Western University and Dr. Kevin Watson, Assistant Professor and Artistic Director of the Western University Jazz Ensemble.

The two weeks from July 18th to July 29th, 2016 will include:

  • Discussions
  • Demonstrations
  • Rehersal labs
  • The opportunity to work with performing concert and jazz ensembles

Participants are asked to bring:

  • An instrument
  • A conducting baton
