About the Tour
Journey back in history to the height of the Hiram Walker's success and learn about his personal friendships with the biggest names in history, including Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Guests will be brought into the basement’s Speak Easy room where meetings were held with Al Capone and The Purple Gang. Hear the story of how Canadian Club whisky quenched the thirst of many U.S. citizens for 13 years during the Prohibition from 1920-1933. Guests will also be invited to Hiram’s Sampling Room, a Canadian art gallery and into the theatre to watch a short video about the production of Canadian Club. The tour finishes with a formal whisky tasting of Canadian Club® 1858 and Dock 57 Spiced Canadian Club® Whisky.

Minors are welcome, but ID may be requested to confirm eligibility for tastings. Please note, the tour is 1.5 hours in length and is not wheelchair accessible. The parking lot is across the road from the building.

Founder’s Day is celebrated annually by the Western community on March 7. It is a time for Western to remember the contributions of its founders and celebrate our students, staff, faculty and alumni and their accomplishments. One of Canada’s oldest universities, Western was founded on March 7, 1878 when the charter was proclaimed. To commemorate this day, members of the Alumni Association have developed a grassroots initiative to promote Founder’s Day.
