B2B Career Networking Lunch

Join fellow students and make some genuine connections at this innovative Backpack 2 Briefcase event. This unique luncheon will provide students with the opportunity to meet successful Western alumni working in a variety of professions.

Section 1 - Networking Workshop

Time:       11:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
Location:
UCC 210
This mandatory workshop will prepare students for the networking lunch to follow. Students will learn basic networking skills which will give them the ability to communicate at the table with confidence.

Section 2 - Networking Lunch

Time:       12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m.
Location: The Wave
During the rotational-style lunch, students will dine with several alumni who will provide general career advice and answer questions.

Section 3 - Networking Mingle

Time:       1:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m.
Location: The Wave
Following lunch, students will have the chance to further their conversations with alumni. This portion of the event allows students to ask specific job-related questions and learn about networking opportunities that exist within their fields of interest.

Tickets are $15 in advance and include lunch. Please purchase tickets online by Saturday, February 2, 2013. No ticket refunds.

A strategic member of the investment team since the firm's inception, Shaun has helped enhance Highstreet's portfolio management techniques and processes. Shaun has 18 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior to joining Highstreet, Shaun was a portfolio manager with a large financial institution.

Immersed in the arts since infancy, Stephanie’s formative years included classical training in voice, piano, violin, and musical theatre. A love for the written and spoken word and reverence for context and truth have prepared Stephanie well to lead within the industry and inspire many through her blog, VOX Daily. She graduated with a bachelor of musical arts degree from the Don Wright Faculty of Music at the University of Western Ontario and has found a unique way to apply her education to the field of voice acting, bringing a fresh perspective and voice to the industry. When she’s not spending time with her husband David and their four children, Stephanie volunteers her time consulting local organizations on social media, singing, and connecting with other like-minded women who positively impact in meaningful ways their families, neighborhoods, work environments, and those around them.

Alison Doherty, BA’ 83

Dr. Alison Doherty completed her Hon. BA in Physical Education at Western in 1983 and moved to the University of Ottawa where she completed a Masters in Physical Education and a PhD in Educational Administration. She was a member of the Canadian Track & Field Team during this time. Prof. Doherty returned to Western in 1990 as a faculty member and Head Coach of the Women’s Track & Field Team. She stepped down as head coach in 1993 but continued as an assistant through 2002. In addition to teaching sport management at the undergraduate and graduate levels, Prof. Doherty’s research interests are in the area of nonprofit and voluntary sport organizations, and particularly volunteerism, group dynamics, and organizational capacity. She has presented her work, along with her students, at conferences around the world.

Brandon R Doneff, BScN’00

Brandon R Doneff is a Critical Care Flight Paramedic for Ornge Transport Medicine with over 18 years experience.  He enjoys being a preceptor/field training officer and representing his colleagues as an Ambassador for Ornge.  Brandon is also a Professor for the Paramedic Program at Fanshawe College in London where he first graduated as a Nurse and Paramedic before receiving his Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing at Western. Recently Brandon has published a medical pocket book for paramedics, nurses and medical students. It is titled  “Medics Little Helper” and has been featured on CTV. 

Alisha Gleiser, BA’06

Alisha Gleiser (nee McAllister) graduated from Western with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with a second area of concentration in Political Science in 2006. Following graduation, Alisha continued work with the Canadian Coast Guard in Search & Rescue before moving onto professional work in the field of kinesiology.

Alisha is a Kinesiologist working in hospital–based rehabilitation at the Middlesex Hospital Alliance. She works as part of the rehabilitation team at both sites which includes physiotherapists and physiotherapist assistants as well as occupational therapists and speech therapists. Alisha’s work includes treatment of inpatients and outpatients as well as specialized program design for patients with total joint replacements, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes. Alisha’s work also includes the hospital-wide ergonomics program for patients and staff and includes physical demands analyses, ergonomic workstation assessments/recommendations and proactive ergonomic education.  Alisha is involved with both the Wellness Committee and also the Joint Health and Safety Committee as a Certified Member.

Alisha remains a professional member with Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA) and  she is involved the with profession of kinesiology at the Transitional College level and is a member of the Alumni Mentorship Program with the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western.

Sean Keith, BA'05, MA'07

Sean Keith is an operations management and research professional, with experience in all aspects of project management practice, research design and execution, public speaking and facilitation.

As Director of Operations and Research, Sean has managed a portfolio of projects in the social media arena developing research insights through dialogue with a global network of more than 400,000 young people. Leveraging both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the development and implementation of large-scale U&A and tracking research efforts have focused on quantifying impacts across a portfolio of initiatives, from political advocacy and education to social innovation projects. Internally, Sean has driven the development of custom project planning, tracking and dashboarding tools to simplify and automate reporting practices. His research has been accepted and presented at the Digital Media Learning conference and published internally and in peer-reviewed academic literature.

As a facilitator, Sean has worked with a range of executive-level clients, from Wall Street (Coburn Ventures) and marketing research (Hotspex) to non-profit sectors (TIG). Participating as a moderator, (DML Conference) and invited panelist (UN-ILO, UNICEF-NCD Child), Sean has been involved in enabling inter-generational dialogue globally.

As a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, Sean has been recognized internationally as a leader helping to empower young people to work collaboratively, share insights and mobilize resources to drive municipal-level civic engagement initiatives, active in his current role as Vice-Chair (Toronto Hub).

Previously, Sean has worked in market research, studying relations between emotions, values and consumer behaviour building on his graduate research in Emotion Theory and Philosophy of Mathematics at the University of Western Ontario.

Chris Makuch, BA’93

As a specialist in shareholder response services, Chris provides strategic counseling and program execution in proxy solicitation, market surveillance/institutional shareholder identification, information agent services, and shareholder asset reunification/small shareholder programs.

Before joining Georgeson in 2008, Chris co-founded The Shareholder Response Group in 2002. He also worked in the Financial Services Division of Hill & Knowlton Canada and at Georgeson Shareholder Communications as Director of Business Development.

Chris has defended senior management and boards during hostile merger and acquisition transactions, successfully solicited shareholder votes during multi-billion dollar international mergers and implemented strategic, cost-saving programs for issuers.

Chris currently serves as Past President on Western's Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Terry Rice, BFA'98, MA'00

Western University

Terry Rice has been the Director of Marketing and Creative Services at Western since 2010 – he has worked in the Department since 2000.

He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (‘98) and a Master’s degree (Journalism ‘00), both from Western.

Terry and his team led the creative development and implementation of Western’s recent rebranding and web redesign.

He has art directed and managed advertising campaigns that have appeared on Toronto Transit, in Maclean's Magazine, Enroute Magazine (Air Canada), Canadian Business, The Globe and Mail, The National Post, and the London Free Press.

His writing has appeared in the Globe and Mail, London Free Press, and the Western Alumni Gazette.  

Terry is an active volunteer in his community and is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Boys' and Girls' Club of London.

Following graduation from Western in 2005, Chris accepted a contract position with Sun Life in Waterloo. Chris has worked at Sun Life since 2005 and has held roles of increasing responsibility including Internal Controls, Taxation and Accounting Analyst positions as well as several senior positions within Investment and Individual Finance. Chris recently accepted the position of Director, Sales Force Incentives.
