Merchant of Doubt 1

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy are pleased to welcome Naomi Oreskes to Western as part of the 2013/2014 Rotman Institute of Philosophy Speaker Series.

Western alumni and friends are invited to Dr. Oreskes’s public talk, Merchants of Doubt: Using History and Philosophy of Science to Understand the Climate Change Debate, which will be moderated by Paul Kennedy, host of Ideas on CBC Radio One.

On vital issues such as genetically-modified foods and climate change, having correct scientific knowledge is vital for making good public policy. How does philosophy help us understand science? How strong is the scientific consensus about climate change, and the effects our species has on it? Dr. Oreskes has studied the climate change debate as a historian and philosopher, and will explore the above questions, and more.

Guests are invited to stay for a reception following the talk.

Parking: The Weldon Parking Lot, off the Alumni Hall traffic circle, has been reserved for guests of this event.
