11th Annual Western Rowing Gala
|
Please join fellow alumni, current team members, friends and family of the Western Rowing program at the 11th Annual Rowing Gala Dinner for an evening of fun and camaraderie. The event will feature a silent auction, games, prizes, live music and a three-course meal. This year we will have the world-renowned rowing coach and Olympian Al Morrow BA’72 as our guest speaker. Al was a Western athlete on the rowing team for four years and also on the water polo team for three years. His major impact on the Western team involves helping build and develop the Western Women’s rowing team for 22 years from 1988-2010. Concurrently he worked with the Women’s national team where, under his leadership, the women won 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Olympics and 7 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals at the World Championships. In 1999, the World Rowing Federation (FISA) recognized Al as the coach of the year, and in 2006 he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. Currently, he is the performance director for the lightweight men’s national rowing program. Our second speaker will be ice dancer Tessa Virtue! Winning gold and silver at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics respectfully, as well as claiming gold at the 2012 and 2010 World Championships, all before the age of 25, she is certainly an ideal athlete to talk about how to be so successful at a young age. |
