SIX DEGREES NEW ORLEANS: WESTERN BUILDS is open to young alumni living anywhere in the world who have an interest in travelling to New Orleans, LA to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build from Sunday, May 6 to Saturday, May 12, 2012.

This week-long travel excursion will incorporate a service-learning reflection component, a core feature of Western’s Alternative Spring Break program.
Team building activities prior to the build, and the experience itself, will engage 20 young alumni in a lifelong relationship with one another and with Alumni Western.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Members of the Western Builds team will stay in dormitory style accommodations with shared bathroom facilities, meeting space, large outdoor area with fire pit, and internet. Our accommodations are located less than 3 miles from the French Quarter - a short distance by trolley.
COST $470.00 CDN + independent return travel
The cost per participant covers 6 nights of accommodation, all meals, some sight-seeing, team t-shirts, Habitat for Humanity experience, and return travel from our accommodations to the build site.
The cost does not cover travel to and from New Orleans. Participants are required to book independent travel and arrive on the evening of Sunday, May 6, 2012.

TEAM PRE-DEPARTURE WORKSHOPS
In preparation for this service-learning experience, Western Builds participants will connect online and via teleconference to get to know one another and to initiate dialogue about service-learning and the transformative nature of this experience.
Team teleconference pre-departure workshops are mandatory for participants and will be co-led by Blake Fleischacker, BA'07, Facilitator (alumni volunteer), and Christina Fox, BA’97, Alumni Relations Officer (staff partner), on the following dates:
