This year for Homecoming FIMS will welcome back four alumni to share their media art careers in a diversity of forms and contexts. Our talented alumni will reflect upon and illustrate their practice in a panel moderated by Professor Norma Coates.

Panelists include:

Kara-Lis Coverdale, BMus'08, MA’10 (PMC), Composer, musician, producer

Ryan Louis, BA’09 (MIT), Project Manager – Integrated Production at VICE Media

Angela Misri, MA'99, Journalist, Novelist, and Digital Director at The Walrus

Stuart Thompson, BA’10 (MIT), Graphics Director, The New York Times Opinion section

Moderator: Norma Coates

Associate Professor Norma Coates is jointly appointed to the Faculty of Information & Media Studies and the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. She teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in popular music studies. Professor Coates has done extensive research on the construction and representation of gender in the music industry and is currently working on a book about the cultural and industrial history of popular music on American network television from, 1956—with Elvis Presley’s arrival on the small screen—to 1981.

Please join us from 1-3PM on Saturday, October 19th, in the FIMS & Nursing Building (Room TBA). All are welcome to attend and a reception will follow.
