16th Annual Western Rowing Gala Dinner
|
Please join fellow alumni, current team members, friends and family of the Western Rowing program at the 17th Annual Rowing Gala Dinner for an evening of fun and camaraderie. This year we are excited to announce that Angela Schneider BA'78 MA'82 MA'85 PhD'93 will be inducted into our Wall of Excellence. There is no question that Angela’s time at western was one of a legend. She was a varsity Rower, Track & Field athlete and member of the Cross-Country Ski Team between 1978-86 winning two OWIAA Rowing Gold and Silver medals. She was a member of the 1986 Commonwealth Games team winning a bronze medal and raced to a silver medal in the women’s coxed four in the 1984 Olympic Games. Angela has been recognized many times including a recipient of the Carol Anne Letheren Award for International Leadership on Women and Sport and is currently a professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western where she focuses on philosophy and ethics in sport, Olympic Studies, and women and sport. Angie was the first director for the World Anti-Doping Agency for Ethics and Education and is a former Assistant Dean for Ethics and Equity in her faculty and recently stepped into the role of Director of the Centre for Olympic Studies. We are excited to also present Dan Edwards, as our keynote speaker. Dan Edwards is a motivational speaker, writer, and mental health advocate. In 2006, Dan was a star athlete, approaching his senior year in high school. Everything was working in his favour, until one night he sustained a severe injury resulting in a loss of feeling from his neck down. This event would significantly impact Dan’s purpose in life going forward. Shortly after his accident, he became inspired to tell his story. Dan developed an understanding of the true value of his life. He focuses his speaking opportunities on how his life was impacted in 2006 and to what degree his life changed after the accident. He fills his message with inspiration, hope, and happiness. He also focuses on the foundations that were laid in his life prior to his accident that would ultimately help him battle through some of the toughest times of his life. He truly shows his audience what it’s like to overcome something life changing with a positivity. All donations for the live and silent auction are appreciated.
