This year's Hanny and Najet Hassan Lecture is presented by Dr. Timothy J. Gianotti: "Mercy, Compassion, and/or Motherly Love: no matter how we translate the term, it all comes down to Rahma." 
 
This hybrid event can be attended in person at Conron Hall or online via Zoom.
 
Following the lecture, a reception will be held in the rooms adjoining Conron Hall.
 
Program:
4:30 p.m. – Guests arrive for in person lecture
5:00 - 6:00 p.m. – Lecture and live stream
6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Reception
 

All registrants will receive the Zoom link; during the registration process you will be asked if you are attending in person (which includes the reception) or online. Should your plans to attend in person change due to illness or weather, the Zoom option will be available. Advance registration is appreciated by October 9, 2023. The lecture will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Parking:

Please allow sufficient time to navigate campus and find parking. The South Valley Lot, Middlesex Lot and The Springett Lots become complimentary with their gates raised at 4:00pm. Paid parking is available at the Talbot Lot as well.

About our speaker:

Dr. Timothy J. Gianotti is President and Acting Provost of the American Islamic College. Dr. Gianotti is also recognized as a Muslim theologian, pastoral leader, and committed interfaith advocate with extensive experience promoting interfaith engagement around the globe. His interfaith work was recognized by the Canadian Senate in 2017, when he was awarded the Senate’s 150th Anniversary Medal at a ceremony in the Senate Chambers in Ottawa. Originally from Portland, Oregon, with a BA from the University of Notre Dame (Great Books, Classics), Dr. Gianotti received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto (Islamic Philosophy & Theology), with periods of study in the Middle East, including at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in the West Bank and the University of Jordan’s College of Islamic Studies in Amman. Beyond the academy, he is also the founder and principal teacher of the Islamic Institute for Spiritual Formation in Toronto and served as one of two religious advisors for Muhammad Ali as the Champ carefully planned his final statement to the world in the form of his funeral.
