The History Department lost a dear friend, colleague, and teacher in December 2018 when Professor Brock Millman died at the age of 54.
A graduate of The University of Western Ontario, the University of London, and McGill University, Brock joined the faculty of his alma mater in 2001. A scholar with a remarkable range, Brock published fine monographs on Anglo-Turkish relations, the British government, Somaliland, and Canada during the First World War. In his last years, he turned to researching the Irish Revolution.
His students were his biggest fans, and in response to the wish of students to commemorate their teacher, the History Department has come together to establish The Brock Millman Memorial Student Award. It will be presented annually to an undergraduate student for outstanding achievement in a History degree program, with preference given to students who have served (or are serving) in the Canadian military.
